My happy dude!

It just melts my heart that Viktor and Anita really love the clothes I make them – so far at least!  

Viktor has been waiting patiently all week to wear his new clothes to daycare so last night we had a quick photo shot so he could wear it today.  And this morning Anita threw a massive tantrum because she wanted to wear her blue dress ( the skater dress ) but it needs to be washed so after a lot of bargaining she put on the clothes I had found for her.

Back to Viktors outfit.  I made him a pair of Tree Climber Trousers by Go To Patterns 

and a Recess Raglan by See Kate Sew. 

For the Recess Raglan I used a rib knit in jade and orange from stoff og stil.  I added some color blocking to the sleeves and a band at the bottom.  I also stenciled some skulls on the front also bought at stoff og stil.  Viktor picked the motive by the way!  I followed the instructions and ironed after 24 hours and washed it after 48 hours, but the images faded after that wash I’m not sure if it is meant to or if I did something wrong.  But Viktor didn’t mind so I guess all is good.  

I felt like a total rebel when making this shirt, first changing up the pattern like that and then I didn’t follow the instructions when sewing it up because I like it better when the cuffs are sewn on after the sleeves and the side seams are done so I don’t end up with the tail from the serger at the end of the sleeve.  

I guess it doesn’t take much for me to rebel  –  LOL!

Ok, lets move on to the tree climber trousers.  I am still a little bit intimidated by sewing pants, 

but these came together quite smoothly and surprisingly fast.  

I made a size 5 with no alterations and they fit great.   

This is where I used that awesome fabric I talked about in my last post.  It is a reversible Japanese corduroy I bought from miss matatabi.  She sells the most gorgeous fabrics I have ever seen.  

The photos above don’t really show off the pants or the fabric so here are some close ups.

Aren’t those great?!  For the pockets I used the other side of the fabric.

And as you can see he is one happy dude!

A Skater Girl

As we transition from summer into fall it is time to start on my fall/winter sewing for Anita and Viktor. At the moment I’m working on an outfit for Viktor but I’m not ready to share that one just yet but don’t worry I do have something to show you. 

Yesterday I sewed up a Skater Dress for Anita.  The Skater Dress is a Kitschy Coo pattern which I got as part of my August patterns from The Sewing Rabbit. Which by the way is a great club to be in if you want to expand your pattern collection, for just $ 10 a month you get 3 new patterns each month and so far at least all the patterns have been great!

Isn’t she cute!  I know you must be thinking – what Anita in a blue dress???  

But let me tell you she loves it!  I added a little bit of pink just to be on the safe side, but the hearts really did the trick.

She sure is getting a hang on those poses!

The fabric is also from the Kitschy Coo store, there are some awesome fabrics there!  I bought it to make an Elsa inspired top for Anita, but I couldn’t find a chiffon to match it at my local fabric store.  

So when I got the Skater Dress pattern I knew it would be perfect for it.

I made the width a size 18M-2T but the length of the skirt and sleeves a size 3T-4T and it is 

the perfect fit for her.

This is just the perfect dress for an active little girl.

I also have the Lady Skater pattern, maybe I should make matching dresses for us girls…?

Accessories for boys

I always get so frustrated when I try to buy accessories for my little ones.  There is this huge selection for girls, just name it and they have it!  And then in the boys department there are like a few belts, caps and band-aids maybe, at least that was the selection last time I went to H&M.

Anita has her Hello Kitty handbag with her everywhere she goes, she even sleeps with it!  Viktor being only 18 months older than she is, they kind of do everything together and always want the same stuff, so he has been borrowing her other Hello Kitty handbag for his treasures.

So armed with Pinterest and a sewing machine I knew I just had to make him a cool messenger bag.  I bought some fabric with pictures of cars on it, but he didn’t like it and insisted on a Lightning McQueen bag.  My local fabric store didn’t have that kind of fabric but they did have some iron-on patches so I got that and some red and blue fabric.  I used this tutorial for the bag but I cheated and bought a ready made strap.

He LOVES it!!

The tutorial was really easy to follow and everything was spot on!  

He cut his hair himself a couple of weeks ago and tried to blame it on his sister, but when she refused he said a monster came into our house and did it 🙂  It really shows in these photos.
