Warm jackets for the kids!

Winter is slowly but surely creeping up on us whether I like it or not,

and it doesn’t look like we will be getting a summer house somewhere in the

southern hemisphere this year (or any other year for that matter).

I guess I had a feeling this would be the case and I’m glad I bought some lovely

wool fabric at Mood Fabrics when I was in N.Y. with my besties celebrating

our big Four Zero this fall.

I used those beautiful fabrics to make jackets for my two youngest ones.

It was the loveliest day when we took our photos so be ready for picture overload in this post!

I was going to blog about the jackets in separate posts but there are some discount codes

I’ll start with the young dude.

For him I used The Jude Jacket pattern from Shwin Designs.

I made him a size 7 since this jacket is quite fitted and I wanted to make sure he

could wear a thick sweater underneath and I didn’t want to make a jacket that would

only last for a short time.

I need to fix the three lowest buttons, I had to hurry up and finish before we

lost the lighting for our photoshoot.  I usually don’t like to go back to my projects

after I finish them but this time I will because we absolutely love this jacket!

So for the rest of this post please ignore my sloppy button sewing.

The pattern comes with an optional chest pocket.  I knew my boy would like pockets

to carry all the treasures he finds along the way so I made the pocket piece a little

bigger, I think about an inch, and added lining to make it a bit sturdier.  And as you can see

placed them lower.

I bought some leather elbow patches at Stoff og Stil and used for the crest on the sleeve and

for some contrast on one the pockets.  The buttons are from Stoff og Stil as well.

AAAATSJU!!

I fully lined his jacket.  I used Heavy Metal by Whistler Studios from Windham fabrics

I bought from Glam Fabrics.

Oh and his hat is knitted by my mom!

This pattern is great and if you only sew it with the facings and not fully lined

 it would be a very fast project.

For her I made the Michelle Jacket also a Shwin Designs pattern.

I made hers in size 5 and it is a bit roomy but as with Viktors

that’s what I was going for.

I know the back pleat is going in the wrong direction, you can’t win them all!

I love the effect of the piping and those side pockets are so cute!

I used the same buttons as for Viktors jacket.

Anita was so happy finally getting some new mommy made clothes, it has been

a while since I made her something so it was long overdue.

Her jacket is fully lined as well.  I used some cotton + steel fabrics bought

from Miss Matatabi for the lining.

I’m so glad I finally tackled making jackets for the kids and even though it was a bit challenging

it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.  The only thing is that it is a bit time consuming,

since each jacket is basically two jackets because of the lining.

But it was a fun challenge and well worth the time.  I love that there are no

exposed seams.

Christmas dress – for me!

A few weeks ago Christina of Wardrobe By Me asked a few of her previous

testers to sew one of her dress patterns in a holiday theme.

I had just bought her Mirri pattern and was planning a dress for me anyway so

of course I was in.  Otherwise I might have procrastinated and not made the

dress until after Christmas.

But now I have my dress ready even in time for

my work Christmas Party next Saturday

This was a surprisingly easy pattern!

It probably would have taken me ten times longer to go shopping for a new dress.

The instructions are very clear and concise.

The pattern comes with 3 length options: Blouse, knee, mid calf and maxi.

I’m thinking a mid calf length would be great for a summer dress.

The fabric is from Stoff og Stil, I think it is this one.

Christina is for sure becoming one of my favorite pattern designer.

Her patterns are easy to follow and you end up with a great fitting and stylish garment,

not to mention a huge boost in your confidence that you made it yourself.

Lounge wear.

The very first thing I do when I come home from work is to change clothes.

I don’t feel that my workday is over until I have done that.

Usually my lounge wear consists of a pair of leggings, a long sleeve t-shirt and a cardigan.

That doesn’t sound so terrible but I should add that I haven’t upgraded my lounge wear

for many many years so there might be some holes and permanent stains and what not.

Guess what I now have an upgrade

and I think I should share it with you my sewing friends!

I got to test some more patterns for Wardrobe by Me, I know I’m so lucky!

This is the urban sweat pants and hoodie!  You can buy them as a bundle here

I have to admit I was afraid of making pants for myself.

I hate trying on pants because of my pear shape, it is so hard finding I pair I like

and I never thought I would make pants for myself.

Both these patterns were a breeze to sew!

Everything went perfectly together and the fit is great.

I made the hoodie in size 4 and the pants in size 8.

Now I have some awesome lounge wear I actually can wear outside.

I’m wearing this as I type this and I even had this on when I took my kids to

preschool today, I never do that with my worn out leggings!

My handsome guy is back!

The kids are finally getting some new mommy made clothes!

First up is my handsome little guy, who actually isn’t so little anymore. He has grown so much lately that almost everything I made him last winter is getting too small.  So I just need to roll up my sleeves and make him some new clothes, oh how I love my chores!

To start off I printed out some Titchy Thread patterns.

This was my first time using her patterns and they did not disappoint!  I have been wanting to make the Twisted trousers ever since they first came out.  Of course he needs some sweaters as well so I thought some Rowan tee’s would be in order.

Both of these patterns were a joy to work with.

The pattern pieces are perfect and the instruction are great and easy to follow.

And all those options!!!

I love the twisted seam, such a fun and unique detail.  Perfect for piping.  This pattern is all about the little details, there is even a teeny tiny coin pocket and a slanted belt loop at the back.

Obviously for the sweater I did the hooded version with the kangaroo pocket

and the contrast full arm stripe.

The fly is faux so no zipper – easy peasy, and the waistband is done with rib and elastic – fast on and off.  Which is a must for this guy because he is always so consumed in what he is doing and leaves it until the very last minute to go to the bathroom.

For the pants I used denim with some stretch I bought on sale at my local fabric store, Kreaktiv.

The Gekko fabric I bought from stoffrullene, looks like it’s sold out there though.

It is a gorgeous quality Lillestoff jersey.

Viktor has been so fascinated with reptiles lately and when we were in Danmark on our

summer holiday we visited a rainforest park and  he was so taken with the gekkos and he got

to touch a snake, he was so happy.  They each got to choose a toy from the gift store and he chose

a gekko teddy bear.  Later we went to another zoo and there he also chose a gekko at the gift store.

So when I saw this fabric on sale when we got home I just had to get it for him.

Since the Rowan Tee with the hood and the kangaroo pocket came so quickly together

I had do whip up a basic one in this cool penguin fabric I bought from Miss Matatabi.

It is a reversible double knit, I bought it last year so I’m not sure she has it anymore and

I’m afraid to look through her listings to find out cause I would probably end up buying something.

Everything is made in size 6 and the fit is great.

If I can find some more nice fabric for pants I would love to make the lined version of

the twisted trousers, nice for the cold winter months ahead.

And now I need to start working on something for Anita!
